Yeah, I know. That's a lot of things!
But all of the work I do is very much intersected into helping folks ditch diet culture and cultivate a more satisfying relationship with exercise, eating, and their bodies.
I approach movement, eating, and health from an anti-diet culture lens.
The short version of what this means: you will never hear me encourage you to earn/burn calories. If you're looking for weight loss coaching, I'm not your person.
The longer version: diet culture is the belief that body size and shape are more important than physical, psychological, and general well-being. Diet culture is a system of oppression that upholds other oppressive systems and is harmful to folks in marginalized bodies. It associates body size and food choices with morality and is rooted in individualism. Research has shown us that dieting (or intentional weight loss) isn't sustainable for most people long-term.
As an anti-diet culture fitness professional, I'm here to help you disengage from the harmful narratives that keep you in a cycle of distrust with your body while cultivating a better relationship with exercise and eating. I believe that establishing a movement practice should be practical, realistic, and at least a little bit enjoyable...and completely void of shame, manipulation, or guilt.
My work is founded upon the principles of Health at Every Size® (HAES®) which includes: weight inclusivity, health enhancement, eating for well-being, respectful care, and life-enhancing movement.
I'm not gonna give you my full resume (...I mean, if you want it, I'm happy to send it to you!), but instead, I'll give you a quick run-down of what makes me qualified to do this work:
AUTONOMY
I believe that you are the autonomous decision-maker for you + your body. My role is to coach and support you with exercise, movement, and through the Intuitive Eating framework, but I will never dictate or demand anything from you. Instead, we will work together to cultivate the capacity to tune inward and learn how to listen to what your body needs in terms of physical activity, nourishment, and more.
CLARITY & COMMUNICATION
I highly value transparency, honesty, and clarity. I am committed to creating an environment that allows for open (two-way!) communication, asking questions, and being upfront. Communication is kind!
ORGANIZATION
What can I say...I like systems, routines, and well-made plans! I also very much prioritize simplicity; I'm a no-frills kind of a gal. There are so many contradictions in the "right" way to exercise and the "right" way to nourish our bodies, IT'S CONFUSING! My job is to help you tune out all of the excess noise, focus in, and to work with you to create a plan that's enjoyable, practical, and sustainable.
Need a quick and easy framework to put together your own workouts without overthinking it? I've created a plug-and-play resource to help you figure out what the heck to do (without spending a lot of time, effort, and energy to plan it all!)
I offer Personal Training and facilitate Small-Group Movement classes through All Bodies Movement and Wellness!
